A tale of two moles

What is now October Chase began in the summer of 1988, when during the course of a three-week visit two cousins discovered in each other a similar love for baseball, statistics and, most important, a passion for computer-simulated baseball and the possibilities it held for redefining fantasy-based leagues.

Over the course of that visit, and the many others that followed, we holed ourselves up and began devising point systems to create fictional teams for fictional leagues. Before long, we were known simply as "The Moles." We pulled all-nighters, and the only time we would show our faces was on our way out to play a game of wiffle ball or to eat. It was, as we like to say, a time of "FINE SEASONS!!!"

We were young then. Baseball seemed pure. And we still held out hope for making it to the bigs.

None of that is true anymore. Darryl and Doc spoiled the purity for us at a pretty early age. Talent and time took care of the other two. However, one thing that has survived the test of time is one of our earliest ideas: to make the game bigger than ourselves. To see how our fictional rosters would stack up against other fictional rosters. Or, more to the point, to prove that we were as brilliant at creating a winning team as we thought we were.

It is in this spirit that we bring you October Chase. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do, and we wish you luck. Winning, as we have learned, is not going to be easy.
